Online Change: Micro-Donations Help Children Survive and Thrive

More than 9 million people fly every day, on average. That’s just under half the population of Australia in the air at any one time! Amadeus IT Group is now helping many of those travellers donate to UNICEF.

It’s all been made possible through Click for Change – a system and campaign that prompts travellers to donate to UNICEF when purchasing travel online.

I was the project lead while at UNICEF in Geneva, working closely with the Amadeus team who developed the technology.

Since the launch at the end of 2013 three airlines – Iberia, Finnair and Norwegian – have joined the partnership with 189,368 donations already made, directly helping the world’s most disadvantaged children.

It’s a great example of combining technology with the scale and reach of players in the travel industry, like major airlines and online travel agencies. Partnerships like these provide the potential to raise millions of dollars for programs that enable children to survive and thrive.

Make your trip count next time you fly with Iberia, Finnair or Norwegian.
